The end of the original line of Ute.

Love these things, it's like I opened up a webpage into an alternative universe. All those funky proportions.

The Black/White ute is a '58 Ford Mainline Utility, developed in Australia using the imported convertible chassis of the same model (Customline, Crestline, etc) with an extra crossmember, and powered by a locally produced version of the side-valve Ford V8 up until '55, and the OHV V8 until '59.

The Mainline was produced from '52 until '59, after which it was replaced with the XK Falcon Utility in May 1961 (near identical to the '60 Ranchero), as part of the locally developed and manufactured Falcon range introduced earlier, in September 1960:

Up until 1971, Australian Falcons were based on, in varying degrees, on the 1960 and 1966 US Falcon designs, progressively less so with the XW and XY built between '69 and '71

The Falcon range, including the utes, were first completely designed and manufactured in Australia in late 1971, with the introduction of the XA Falcon:

I've never really read up on the Aussie Fords. But I see know that I should have done that. That XA Falcon looks AWESOME.
